My name is Vicky Burman. I’ve been helping public, independent and third sector health and care providers produce all sorts of written information since 2001.
My WriteCare business aims to benefit both those who create and deliver health and care services and the people who use them.
I offer a range of editorial skills to make sure written information is clear, accurate, meaningful and relevant so it has a real and worthwhile impact on whoever it’s aimed at. I can start a writing project from scratch, doing research, carrying out interviews and capturing messages from other sources, like speeches and presentations. I can review and edit a draft that’s already been produced to make it better. Or I can proofread the content to check it’s correct and consistent before it’s published.
My experience means I ask the right questions and grasp complex issues quickly. At the same time, as an external specialist I can offer a fresh perspective and challenge assumptions.
I strongly believe in the importance of quality health and care information. I’m a member of the Patient Information Forum (PIF), and have signed its health and digital literacy charter to commit to making it easier for everyone to navigate, understand, and use information and services to take care of their health. I’m also a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and follow its code of practice, so you can rest assured I work to the highest standards. As a member of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), I apply the values of accuracy, honesty, fairness and sensitivity set out in its code of conduct to anything I write. And I try to make the most of the development opportunities and resources these bodies have to offer.
Elsewhere on the WriteCare website you can find out more about my services, my clients, the way I work, when you might need me, and the added value I feel I can bring to meeting your requirements. Please get in touch if you’d like to chat about what I can do for you.
